X-mas With X
I love many bands, but I’ve never geeked out on a band as hard as I’ve geeked out on X.
They are the best band to have ever come out of LA. Period.
I know…Them’s fightin’ words. But, I speak the truth.
It’s been nearly 34 years since they began and their music is just as powerful now as it must have been back then (Full disclaimer: I was barely alive back then. So I can’t say for sure....

Why Buy The Cow???
I had one of those “Endgame” moments today, the I’m “having an idea” moments.
I was in the middle of using the expression, “Why buy the cow when you can get the milk for free?” My poor boyfriend’s eyes were rolling around in his head, all googly-like, as if to say, “Help! How do I get out of this conversation? I know…if I look really...

Smoking Crack On My Doorstep
Yesterday I ran from bar supply to bar supply buying all the items I need for the Thirsty Crow holiday cocktail menu. It was a laborious exercise in maintaining my cool while stalled in LA traffic. Luckily, my friend Monica came with me. We road tripped all over LA listening to DeVotchka and searching for nutmeg and jiggers and crock pots.
It was about 8:30 pm when I finally pulled in my...

Daniel Lanois' $100
Greg told a cool story today while we were sitting around mixing our ep at our friend Eric’s studio.
Greg’s previous band, the Nervous Return, played Spaceland one night. Jenn, the booker, introduced the band to Daniel Lanois after their set. Daniel told them, “You guys are great. You deserve to get paid.”
Then, Mr. Lanois turned to Jenn and asked, “How much are...

Last Tour Stops, BarSmarts
It’s been difficult to blog lately. The end of the tour came and went and I arrived home to a whirlwind of work.
The last few shows of the tour were wonderful. The Bombs Away Cafe in Corvallis was amazing. We played our set twice because the people at the show didn’t “care if we’ve already heard the songs before, we want to hear more from you.” That felt great.

North By Northwest
We are on our way back down the coast now. I believe I left you in Monterey… After Monterey, we headed up to Portland, OR. Our friends Brandy and Douglas live there. We stayed with them and their beautiful pups, Stella and Kayley. We played at the Ash Street Saloon with a cool band that was like a cross between Radiohead and Death Cab for Cutie called Symmetry, Symmetry. Unfortunately, they...

Driving Toward Halloween
Saturday was intense. We drove and drove and drove and drove and drove. Driving all day made me feel crazy; my body was buzzing with the vibration of the road, my shoulders ached from hunching over the steering wheel, my butt was numb, my brain was fried. Our show in Modesto was supposed to start at 8, but the tire issue set us back. Eleven hours of driving put us at the Queen Bean around...

Tour: Going With the Flow
(I meant to publish this yesterday, but had limited internet access.)
I’m sitting in the lobby of Big O Tires in Prescott, AZ. This is not what Greg and I had planned for today. But that’s the thing about tour. You gotta go with the flow. We have a show in Modesto, CA tonight. That’s about eleven hours from where we currently sit. We wanted to start driving last night. Luckily,...

God and Sound Guys
The best way to explain what happened at our tour kickoff show last night is to tell an old joke. Question: What’s the difference between God and a sound guy? Answer: God doesn’t think he’s a sound guy.

Fish Taco Guru
I just had a strange experience. I was tired from a day full of trivial errands. I took a break, before folding the laundry I had done, to run to the liquor store and pick up some pumpkin beer. I’ve just discovered the stuff and have made it my personal mission to try every kind of pumpkin beer out there. My search for the best one has begun. So far I’ve tried Harvest Moon by Blue...

The Apex Point
I haven’t posted in awhile. I constantly battle with myself over how much of my inner being to expose to the public. However, I find the more I blog, the more I write in general. And I like blogging. It’s a relief to record a snap shot of each day as it passes. So, here I am. A prodigal daughter of the keyboard, returning to my blog with newfound appreciation for this form of...
